2007 KSEA Scholarship for Undergraduate Students in the US
 
  Objective
To recognize outstanding students with Korean heritage who have excelled in academics as well as in community services, and who have demonstrated a potential for becoming leaders in the society.
 
  Scholarship Categories (total 11-14)
  • KSEA Scholarships (2-5), $1,000 per award
  • Inyong Ham Scholarship (1), $1,000 per award
  • Hyundai Scholarship (2), $1,000 per award
  • Chunghi Hong Park Scholarship (2), $1,000 per award for women
  • Yohan and Rumie Cho Scholarship (1), $1,000 per award
  • Shoon Kyung Kim Scholarship (1), $1,000 per award
  • Nam Sook and Je Hyun Kim Scholarship (1), $1,000 per award
  • SeAh-Haiam Scholarship (1), $1,000 per award
  • Outstanding Essay Awards (2), $500 - $1,000 per award. The awarded essays will be published in KSEA Letters.
  Eligibility
  1. Undergraduate students in the U.S. with Korean heritage,
  2. Major in science, engineering, or related fields, and
  3. KSEA membership

  4. (Students may apply for KSEA membership at the time of scholarship application.)
  Application Materials
  1. KSEA scholarship online application

  3. An essay on one of the following topics (500-1500 words in the online application):
    1. My experience in volunteer activities
    2. Meaning of Korean heritage in my life
    3. My vision on science and technology cooperation between the US and Korea
  4. Official transcripts from colleges attended. At least one college semester transcript and high school transcripts for college freshmen; at least three college semester transcripts for college sophomores.

  5. Two recommendation letters [one from an academic advisor or counselor and the other from a current or former official of KSEA (an executive committee member, a councilor or a chapter president) or a professor of the college attending or a teacher of the high school attended for college freshmen]
  Evaluation Criteria
  • Academic performance - 30%
  • Recommendation letters -30%
  • Work experience and extracurricular activities - 20%
  • Essay - 20%

  Announcement and Award Presentation
  • Notice of the scholarships will be announced on the KSEA webpage (https://www.ksea.org) by May 15, 2007.
  • Previous recipients of any KSEA scholarship are not eligible.
  • Scholarship Presentation:
    1. The certificate and scholarship fund will be mailed to the KSEA local chapter president if available by the end of May, 2007. Each chapter can perform their own ceremony for certificate presentation.
    2. Scholarship recipients who can attend the UKC2007 (Washington, DC; Aug. 10-11, 2007) will receive the scholarship certificate at a ceremony attended by UKC2007 participants. But no travel expenses will be provided.
